Climate Planet comes to IRIS Lighthouse City Utrecht

This autumn, the city of Utrecht will be home to the international Climate Planet Exhibition. From 6 October to 3 November a 24-meter-high globe will tower above the Utrecht Jaarbeursplein, attracting an estimated 70.000 visitors to create awareness and debate over climate change. A circle of containers surrounds the globe, portraying the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event reflects and reinforces Utrecht’s role as a European Lighthouse City in the IRIS project. In bringing the Climate Planet to the Netherlands, IRIS-partner Utrecht Municipality aims to bring the city’s residents and businesses together to adopt ambitious sustainability initiatives. The municipality puts forward the SDGs in the exhibition as a unifying framework that stimulates exchange and cooperation and empowers existing initiatives in the city to extend their reach. Here IRIS solutions like smart mobility, solar energy, sustainable urban planning and strategic multi-stakeholder partnerships are top priority.
